Cassie Lee is a highly experienced lawyer who has practiced in a wide range of areas in both civil and criminal law since 1991. After graduating from the University of Sydney and being admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in 1990, she started her legal career as an Associate at the prestigious large law firm Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) in Sydney. She then honed her skills in a few other private law firms in Sydney for a number of years, before heading off to the USA and working as an attorney in New York from 1999 to 2001.

Upon returning to Australia, she worked as a criminal defence lawyer at Legal Aid NSW from 2001 until 2008, representing countless Legal Aid clients in all kinds of criminal matters in both state and Commonwealth jurisdictions. She appeared as advocate in the Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court for bail applications, sentencing, defended hearings, trials, conviction and severity appeals, applications under mental health legislation and other related matters.

Cassie Lee was recruited as a Senior Lawyer by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in 2008, where she was the case lawyer responsible for a large number of ICAC investigations for nearly ten years. She provided advice on legal, strategic and policy issues to ICAC, conducted many private hearings as Counsel Assisting, and instructed in numerous public inquiries after which she drafted the ICAC investigation reports in those matters.

While employed at ICAC, she was seconded as an Executive Level 2 Senior Lawyer to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse from 2013 to 2014, and as a Senior Lawyer to the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office from 2014 to 2015 where she worked on numerous coronial inquiries.

Cassie Lee’s excellent communication and analytical skills include an ability to produce documentation work of the highest standards, with the benefit of many years’ experience in drafting documents including court pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, agreements, warrant applications, formal submissions, and ICAC investigation reports following public inquiries.
